Bars

Spain is the country that has the worlds highest amount of bars in proportion to it's population. There are almost six bars per thousand inhabitants, which is three times more than in England and four times more than in Germany. For the Spaniards the bar represents a social meeting place for the whole family, which you can often see at the end of the day during weekends when children often are allowed in the bars together with their parents. In smaller towns the local bar often represents the center of social life and usually after social events or happenings people of all ages gather in the local bar to socialize.
You only have to walk a couple of meters in any direction in Barceloneta or anywhere in Barcelona, any time of the year, and you will notice that it is always packed with people at the local bars.
